Snow in the hills

Its been snowing up high, and cold in town. Powderhorn opened the day after Thanksgiving this year, and we've gotten 3 days on skis so far! Too warm us up here's a wildflower photo dump. PC: mostly Jeena

Got out for skin up at Mesa Creek/Old Powderhorn initially planned to repeat Jeena and I's Thanksgiving tour, but felt like I had mismanaged my layer system and was sweating too much to risk an extended time out if the weather changed. I made my way back westward and at the usual transition spot met a few folks. I ripped skins and was about to drop Pruess when a Rooster appeared. He had a gray handlebar mustache, single earring, and jolly demeanor. When he asked if I'd like to join him, I knew it was the right choice. I quickly ripped skins and repacked my bag for a continued tour. We continued west to some new to me terrain. We turned towards the highway and made our way to a boulder field. Rooster packed out a transition pad and sat down to a hot thermis of something and a meat stick. I tried to keep Tula entertained. We slowly picked our way through the boulders. Too much fun

Wow winter has come and gone and we've been so busy I put the blog in the backburner. I will have to play catch up here soon, because theres a lot to catch up on. Until then here,s some pictures from a drive up Lands End road today. At the top I drove out 100 towards Anderson Resevoir then cut over on 108 to find a good spot to let the dogs run. With it being in the mid 90s I was ecstatic for the 68 degree afternoon up above 10,000 feet I tested out our new awning and let the dogs romp all over. We then took a new to me road (105) back to 100. What a day. So far I'm very surprised and pleased with our AllTop Overland Awning it feels well made and is pretty easy to get set up even solo. I highly recommend an awning for the desert dwellar.

Snows filling in

Great day out exploring some more new to me terrain Went out with a good crew, and got some good local knowledge of the area as well as some good history. Hard to beat wandering through Aspen stands and conifers for most of the morning to ski a mellow pitched glade. Avalanche danger was considerable per CAIC for the Grand Mesa so we opted for some low angle tree skiing. Expecting the snow to be heavy and not quite deep enough to let loose, we all were pleasantly surprised by how filled in our line was, and the skiing was the best yet this season. Highlights included multiple Aspen with bear marks, crossing over and by a suspected den, and Hot Tomato Pizza at the transition. Snows forecasted for the early part of the week which should get our base coverage where it needs to be.
